Ilex v. ’Southern Gentleman’ is the ideal male pollinator for ’Winter Red’ or ’Winter Gold’ winterberry. He is nondescript (the classic "green meatball") but flowers at just the right time in spring so that the winterberry women will be heavily laden with berries in the fall.
